El Alma De México

Speculative Work - Page Layout, Illustration, Editorial

  • El Alma De México is an authentic Mexican cookbook that not only aims to provide clear instructions, but educate readers on Mexico's culture and cuisine, making the recipes accessible for all.

  • To design pages for the cookbook that are clean, easy to navigate, and informative for men and women aged 35-65 that are interested in cooking and learning about Mexican culture and cuisine. The primary goal of the cookbook is to get more people into the kitchen and explore the country through its cuisine, creating more interest providing a way for readers to learn more.

  • I designed a clean, traditional look for the cookbook, using type, colour, iconography, and illustrations. Each recipe includes icons for nutritional information, spice level, and dietary suitability, making the book easy to navigate with a 1:2 column ratio and varied font weights to clearly distinguish each section, improving readability and accessibility.

  • For the front and inside cover, I illustrated traditional Mexican ingredients like chili, herbs, and citrus fruits within Adobe Illustrator, adding texture in Procreate for a hand-drawn feel. I also created a repeating pattern of these illustrations for the inside covers.
